Get Involved

Want to make a difference on campus? Join UGBC!

It's not too late to get involved with UGBC for the 2017-2018 academic year! Here are a few ways to get involved.

  • Special Elections for Student Assembly: Run for open seats in the Student Assembly, UGBC's Legislative Branch. In the Student Assembly, you will have the opportunity to work on creating and implementing major policy initiatives while representing your class. Prior to the elections there will be a mandatory info session for those intending to run. Email the Elections Committe at elect@bc.edu or check out the Elections Committee on MyBC for more information!
  • Reach out with ideas: If you have an idea that you think UGBC would be able to help with, contact your SA member or an executive member!
  • Come to Events: Support your peers and come to UGBC events to see what UGBC does on campus! Don't be afraid to ask questions!

Other opportunties to get invovled!

If you are returning to BC and want to get involved in UGBC, or a freshman who would like a lower-commitment position, there are still options available:

  • Staffer: Every committee within the Student Assembly has staffer members that conduct research, write policy proposals, and work toward implementing new policies, executing new initiatives and programs, or addressing campus issues. If you are interested in a position, please email EVP Ignacio Fletcher at fletchei@bc.edu or check back in September for the application.

For First-Years:

New to BC? UGBC is a great way to get involved on campus, meet lots of new people, and effect meaningful change at BC.

There are three main ways to get involved as a first-year student:

  • First-year Senate Seats: Run in a class-wide election to be elected to one of the five available first-year Senate seats in the Student Assembly, UGBC's Legislative Branch. In the Student Assembly, you will have the opportunity to work on creating and implementing major policy initiatives while representing your class. The elections themselves will take place in September with dates still to be determined. Prior to the elections there will be a mandatory info session for those intending to run. Email the Elections Committe at elect@bc.edu or check out the Elections Committee on MyBC for more information!
  • Undergraduate Leadership Academy (ULA)ULA is a program for first-year students that serves to assist with the transition into the BC community and as an introduction to UGBC. ULA aims to assist with the formation of UGBC's future leaders through discussions, direct mentorship, and lasting friendships. Applications will be open soon, so be sure to check them out, and email the directors - Tiffany Oluoch (oluocht@bc.edu) or Drew Boland (bolandan@bc.edu) - for more information!
  • General Member in the AHANA+ Leadership Council (ALC) or GLBTQ+ Leadership Council (GLC): ALC & GLC weekly meetings are open to the public and any student is welcome to join as a general coordinator to get involved. For more information about GLC contact Chris Ramirez (ramirecb@bc.edu) or Symone Varnado (varnado@bc.edu) ; for ALC contact Michael Osaghae (osaghae@bc.edu).

All UGBC General Meetings are open to the undergraduate student body! Attend a meeting to learn about what UGBC is doing to improve your experience at Boston College and make your voice heard! Meetings take place every Sunday at 7pm. Visit UGBC on MyBC for more information!
